The Pete Seeger story last night ended up with the Hudson River bit...brb...
Oh...I'd forgotten this...about Woody Guthrie's Guitar...
quote
Inspired by Woody Guthrie, whose guitar was labeled "This machine kills fascists,"photo Seeger's banjo was emblazoned with the motto "This Machine Surrounds Hate and Forces It to Surrender

That's in line with a thought I had for this post...Seeger's banjo was...I dont want to say weapon...though I had this "Seeger used a banjo...instead of a carcano..." which was an inside jfk thing..but in just reading that Seager did a collection of Spanish Civil War songs...there's an intonation to that in the ditty!...
Sometimes bold words are kinda exaggerated..."the pen is mightier than the sword"...the pen to a writer is like the banjo to Seeger.
Which all made me ponder what a blog...my blog!...blogs!!..is..are...some are clearly pushing political tunes...in a minute here I'll get the songs on the web of the old Spanish fascists...I found them once trying to find the lyrics the Italian sailor's sing in Two Years Befor the Mast...I'm probably pushing a tune..which is why I'm curious about the Hudson River bit...brb..

Seeger is involved in the environmental organization Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, which he founded in 1966. This organization has worked since then to highlight pollution in the Hudson River and worked to clean it. As part of that effort, the sloop Clearwater was launched in 1969 with its inaugural sail down the Hudson River to South Street Seaport Museum in New York City.[23] The sloop regularly sails the river with volunteer and professional crew members, primarily conducting environmental education programs for school groups. The Great Hudson River Revival (aka Clearwater Festival) is an annual two-day music festival held on the banks of the Hudson at Croton Point Park. This festival grew out of early fundraising concerts arranged by Seeger and friends to raise money to pay for Clearwater's construction.

Joan Baez in Hanoi is interesting...and overlooked..she was there during a raid..brb...
quote
well..I cant snag that one...but I read the report in I think an old Rolling Stone...
it's here too...search: Joan Baez hanoi bombing...
Seeger, I was thinking...uses his sloop, Clearwater...like his banjo...and I kinda like that.....dont like when politics is in music though...secret overtones and all...the kinda secrecy of the communists that Seeger came to object to!
Missing too is the Christian tunes in Blue Grass...see Allison Krauss...listen to..rather...she's adorable...
Baez did two songs for the old movie Silent Running...brb...here it is on Youtube...search: Silent Running baez...
It has clip from film...remind you of anyone!!
here's the other one...

It is very noticeable that whereas the republican side includes work by many significant artists and intellectuals of the early twentieth century, there is nothing of artistic merit on the side of Franco. While hundreds of young men and women from around the world rallied to the International Brigades to defend republican Spain, those who came from abroad to aid Franco are represented in the exhibition by two aristocratic English women, a Welsh fascist and a company of Irish Catholic soldiers.
The small number of exhibits representing the fascist side include Franco’s personal shield; his armchair; his notes on a copy of a non-intervention treaty signed in 1938; the microphone that he used for his broadcastings; his baton, medals and a cast of his right hand made at the time of his death in 1975. The artistic contribution of Francoite Spain includes a gaudy and idealised picture of Franco in all his regalia, 21 framed photographs of fascist women, lithographs of the fascist song “Cara al Sol” and various propaganda poster.

I call them social scientists...as that's what "communism" fits on top of...if Timarchy is a government by military aristocracy...Communism is government by a scientific aristocracy...lemego find that song...
here it is with a slide show...a "tune"...
Of late there seems to be an unholy alliance of scientists, militarists, and religionists...and it's all a bit scary...and an "again"...
I'll post now, but will add the Italian song from Dana's book...if I can find it...Youtube is kinda magical with the songs!!
The song:

THE NEXT Sunday was Easter Sunday, and as there had been no liberty at San Pedro, it was our turn to go ashore and misspend another Sabbath. Soon after breakfast, a large boat, filled with men in blue jackets, scarlet caps, and various colored under-clothes, bound ashore on liberty, left the Italian ship, and passed under our stern; the men singing beautiful Italian boat-songs, all the way, in fine, full chorus. Among the songs I recognized the favorite “O Pescator dell’ onda.”
