On

Van Gogh's Starry Night...

Well, another dust up at Last Chance...hot chocolate again...must be a thing to do...come in after hours....snag chocolate...and annoy the old guy....

Man vs Wild on....out in the Sahara and the Atlas Mountains...I've never seen any video of the Atlas Mountains...this a very neat feature of this show...as he gets into the details of places...kinda like the Creek blog...

And I was thinking 'on'...energon...enron....and then I remembered the movie Tron...which has that curious discovery end...and turn about...somewhat like that low key Oz story Disney did where Oz has gone into a kinda winter sleep...an unheralded movie...both Tron and the Oz one...and then there's electron....and these words all end in "on"....and there's "off" of course....

and this is all about electricity...and, finally...I get to Whitman...I sing the body electric....I've never looked closely into Walt Whitman...but I glimpsed a poem he wrote about how at any given moment everything is as it always has been, and always be, and there's really no...what...change...oh...let me see if I can find it...which is going to be tough...

Now he's going to Kenya...cool...

brb...

quote from On the Beach Alone at Night

A vast similitude interlocks all,
All spheres, grown, ungrown, small, large, suns, moons, planets,
All distances of place however wide,
All distances of time, all inanimate forms,
All souls, all living bodies though they be ever so different, or in different worlds,
All gaseous, watery, vegetable, mineral processes, the fishes, the brutes,
All nations, colors, barbarisms, civilizations, languages,
All identities that have existed or may exist on this globe, or any globe,
All lives and deaths, all of the past, present, future,
This vast similitude spans them, and always has spann'd,
And shall forever span them and compactly hold and enclose them.

Walt Whitman

quote

That's not quite the one I had in mind...but it's close...lemesee if I can get at the notion another way...

The visual spectrum is how we see...and it's just a small part of the elecromagnetic spectrum...but with it we see everything we see with our eyes..and when we look at the stars...we see pretty much what anyone anywhere in the universe would see if they see with our kind of eyes...little pin points of light...lots of them to be sure...but the same vision...

And Whitman has this poem where he plays with this idea, but extends it by saying all times are kinda the same time...as all the events that are happening now will happen again, and have happened before...

What I'm seeing at the Creek has been going on...for millions of years...and unless we really mess things up...will conitinue so...the passage of time is ever present...the plants change with the seasons...the animals make their seasonal passages...and even the years slowly change from one to the next..y'know...mountain ranges come and go..."first there was a mountain then there was no mountain then there was"....Donovan sings something like that...

This is the kinda stuff Whitman dwells on...and I cant dwell too much on Whitman as he just uses way too many general words...like place names and concept names...and...minute particular wasn't in his vocalbulary!...but reading along, which is very easy...he doesn't use obscure words either!...something of note usually pops up...little gems surround by a lot of ore!

It's always been dissappointing to me that so many starting out poets latch on to his style...and the Beats, Kerouac and Ginseberg...dont help...much of it is cotton candy and not much nourishment...

I thought the Body Electric had some bits on how the nervous system is electical..which I think was a discovery contemporay with Whitman's time...he celebrates physicality...Let's get physical...physical...sung better by Olivia...but he's famous for this as he wrote in a stodgy time.

Whitman would have a tough time narrating Man vs Wild!!

During trouble with my teeth I sensed somehow a shooting pain along the nerve from a front tooth to my back tooth...I sensed very cleary the size of the nerve...which was very slim and slender..and the electric charge like pain that fluxed along it.

We are 'electric bodies' and we're 'on'.

And this time is like any other time, somewhat like a starry night sky on this side of the galaxy is the same vision someone on the other side is stargazing at...albeit the stars have moved a bit since their glimmer began it's jouney to our eyes...here...and there.

"and use our brains, like our ancestors did (in Africa) to keep us on top of the food chain"

millions on millions of stars

That's a very low estimate!!
